BIG FANFARE

DO we have a GREAT competition for you?  YES WE DO!

The Prize is no less than Frederick’s Nephew Jolyon Hummel, seen here with his uncle at Twickenham recently and in a portrait photograph.  He is an endearing little chap and is looking forward to coming to stay with one lucky person.

How do I enter Frederick?

Well to start with you must be a member of the FVF Club, but don’t despair if you aren’t yet because as long as you are a member or have applied and paid your first year’s subscription BEFORE 1st November 2008 you can enter.

You have until 5pm on 31st December to get your entries to me at House of Igor either by post or by e-mail to me.

Now details of the competition.

As you know I own and run a highly successful racing stud in Cambridgeshire.  What I want you to do is design a new set of silks for my jockeys.  That’s shirt and cap.  Couldn’t be easier.  The winner will be the person who in my opinion best reflects the spirit of the House of von Flieder.  Here to help you is a copy of my own personal crest with a description.

The Personal Arms of Frederick von Flieder, Graf von Zehn

Field Sable quartered Or on ten crowns Or bejewelled and primroses. Mantle of lilac pendulant crested by Doppeladler Or

Unusually, in recognition of his untiring work in Beathty Genealogy, Frederick von Flieder was granted the right to quarter his arms by the Beathty Heraldth, to contain a reference to his mother who was a commoner and not a holder of arms in her own right.

The von Flieder arms bearing 10 crowns are a humorous reference by Florian the first Graf von Zehn to his having out-lived 10 different Hapsburg rulers to the date of his title being bestowed.

The quatering with primroses is a reference to Frederick’s mother April Primel, primel being the German for primrose.

The Doppeladler or double-headed eagle represents Austria where Florian was born and in fact where all the von Flieders have lived until Frederick’s father Ferdinand married April Primel and settled in England.

The lilac mantle is, of course, another pun on the von Flieder name

The motto is interesting in that Frederick has slightly changed the original family motto for his personal arms.  The family motto is “Gesang in die Herrschafts” – Singing in the Reigns which has been wittily amended to “Gesang in die Haltens” or Singing in the Reins a reference to his highly successful stud in Cambridgeshire.

So now you know and can get those entries rolling in.

Houthe of Igor Great Summer Competition 2008

Thank you to everyone that entered this competition.  We hope you had fun trying to find the name of the Beathty.

Just in case you didn't work it out (though most of you did) the correct name was

Freya Hautevolee

The correct entries were sorted and placed in Frederick's Cricket Cap.  Mithith B shut her eyes tight and picked the lucky winner.  And it was:

Miss Ruth Savage of London

Congratulations Ruth!!
